You’re Golden

“Your own private island in a palette”

😊

First of all, I’m sorry this palette is late. It’s technically a summer palette. On YouTube, holiday 2021 is upon us. With that said, I will never be that ahead of things. Is it too much to live in the moment? I don’t even have my fall palettes together yet.

It’s funny how only a few years ago I would have thought it was crazy to switch your palettes for the season. Now, it’s just totally normal. I guess people do change. You may not be able to change someone, but you yourself can change. What were we talking about? Oh yeah….palettes. The You’re Golden palette by Colourpop to be exact.

I don’t remember that much about this one when it came out. I think I was on the fence about purchasing it, and than decided to get it when Colourpop had one of their sales. This is one of Colourpop’s 30 shade palettes, so of course it took me a while to testπŸ˜‰

The Basics

You’re Golden is a mix of very warm golden browns, oranges and for some reason…a blue. They are definitely going for the island, tropical thing, but for me, the blue does not bring much. Unlike Limoncello, which had that perfect shade of blue that really complemented the palette, I feel like this one is just kind of there. It’s an inner corner shade at best. The other blue is pressed glitter. I like the tropical blue vibe, but I just feel like for a palette of this size, they could have added a deeper blue metallic and a matte.

This palette is extremely warm, even for a warm palette. Don’t pick this one up unless you really like warm tones. The cost is $34.00. I do not believe it is available at Ulta. You can get it off Colourpop’s website here..https://colourpop.com/products/youre-golden-pressed-powder-palette.

Mattes

This palette has 14 matte shades, 3 of which are matte glitters. Colourpop usually goes pretty heavy on the matte glitters, so for a palette this size, it’s not too bad. They are a little powdery, but not hard to work with. This formula reminds me a lot of the Stone Cold Fox. It’s messy. Some of the shades are a little close, but again, that’s to be expected in a palette this size.

Metallics

There are 12 metallic shades in this palette, and in my opinion, they are just a little better than the mattes. They go on smooth and are really pretty. The stand out shade for me is Daydreamer. It’s the one shade in the palette that is a little on the cooler side, with gold flecks…just gorgeous.

This palette is definitely golden, it’s very warm, with only a few true neutrals. I just feel that for a palette this big, you are not going to get that many different looks.

The Packaging

This is very similar packaging to Stone Cold Fox. It’s sturdy, but it gets dirty very fast, and is impossible to keep clean. It might be due to the powdery formula. Like I said earlier, the formula is also similar to the Stone Cold Fox.

Comparisons

For some reason, I presumed this was similar to Bare Necessities. It’s not. Bare Necessities is much cooler (and it is a warm palette). I prefer Bare Necessities. The first row is a little cool. I can almost dupe my broken Going Coconuts palette. Next row is a little warmer. I can also do a gold look, a bronze look a chocolate brown look. You can just do so many more things with Bare Necessities.

With You’re Golden, you are doing a very warm brown or orange look. That’s pretty much it. I just feel that for 30 shades, this palette is limited.

Bare Necessities on the left and You’re Golden on the right. You’re Golden looks a little lived in. The material is just so hard to clean.

If I’m not mistaken, this palette came out around the same time as Sigma’s Ambiance. To me, there is no comparison, with Ambiance being the clear winner. I also have to say that I preferred the oranges in Hangin in Hawaii (by BH cosmetics) to these. Those tones were a little more subtle, but that is just personal preference. Honestly if you have those two palettes, you have the best of both worlds, and I would skip this one.

Wearability and Conclusion

I did not have a reaction to this palette, it was actually quite a comfortable formula. It’s not that I do not like this palette, it’s just too warm for me. Again, it’s personal preference. If you like very warm tones, this might be a good fit for you.

With that said, I do not think this palette is at all limited to summer. Cover up the first three rows, and it basically screams fall. So maybe I am not late after all…maybe I am right on time.πŸ‚πŸ
