First of all, I hope everyone had a nice October and a fun Halloween (if you celebrate it). My October was basically making videos…all kinds of videos. Yes, if you were wondering….I did finish Vlogtober, and when all was said and done, I had tried 12 eyeshadow palettes.
What happens when you have a nickel allergy, and you decide to try 12 palettes in one month? A few things. Besides getting a pretty much guaranteed reaction, you really have no idea what you are reacting to. You also have no idea which palettes you can actually use. What was I thinking? Who knows. I am someone who, when I test a palette, I test a palette. I want to see what I can wear, what I can’t wear, test colors together, test colors apart…etc. I am someone who should be testing 1 or at most two palettes per month. Dipping into a palette, using it once, wearing it a few hours, and never trying it again, is not, in my opinion, a review. At best I have an idea (unless I knew it was terrible right away). And this is what I told my viewers. You can see the video here…..
So…October had me trying some good palettes, some really good palettes, and some that were downright awful. However, only one truly stood out, and it was one I had never heard of. Not to mention, I bought it by complete accident!
Sometime in October, or possibly September, BH Cosmetics released a collection called “Poison Shock.” I barely heard anything about it. I really do not understand why BH launches do not get the attention that they deserve. In any case, these were 9 pan monochromatic palettes. I believe that there were six in total….Sub-Zero (blue), Ghost Pepper (pink), Nightshade (purple), Scorpion Sting (orange), Absinthe (green)….and finally Venom, described as “monochromatic silver, black and cool toned shades.”
Now the last time BH Cosmetics took a stab at monochromatic palettes, we got the sweet shops, which did cause me an allergic reaction, but were amazing palettes. These palettes looked lovely, but I did not try them….except Venom. So how is it I bought this by accident? Like I said, I had not heard too much about this collection, I happened to be browsing BH’s website, and saw a palette that said take a bite. I presumed it was a Halloween vampire palette. I ordered it immediately for my vampire video. However, when it came, the color story threw me. Beautiful? Yes, very. Vampy? Not even close. There is a reason for that….its based on snakes. It finally “clicked.” Poison shock, take a bite…venom. What can I say? When you shoot a video every day for 30 days, things stop making sense. So, I was left with a beautiful snake skin palette…which became my favorite palette of the month.
The Basics
Make ’em fear the bite
This 9 pan palette cost $15.00, however I have already seen it on sale. It was at Ulta, but I do not see it there now. You can get it on BH cosmetics website here…https://www.bhcosmetics.com/products/venom.
This palette consists of 3 mattes and 6 shimmers. As for the mattes, there is a white, a gray and a dark gray. They have a nice formula, but their main function is to support the incredible and I mean incredible shimmers. They are……
Deadly Bite – Icy White
Under the Skin – Perfect Silver
Silent Killer – Slate Gray Shimmer
Viper Tracks – Icy Pink
Femme Fatale – Deeper Pink Shimmer
Bitten – Deep Gray Shimmer
I would have to disagree with the description, to me this palette is gray, not black. However, it is perfect. If you like cool toned shimmer, you will love this! This might not be a “holiday palette,” but if you are looking to do an icy winter look, I do not think you can go wrong!
Packaging
Lately, BH Cosmetics has been keeping the packaging very
simple. There is nothing wrong with that…black cardboard, and no mirror. I like the front, even though it is simple. Inside is the “Take A Bite” that confused the hell out of me (doesn’t take much these days.) The packaging does have that Halloweeny feel, but no one will ever know when it is on your eyes.
Conclusion
This was one of the best mistakes (in makeup) I have ever made. I love this palette. And no, it gave me no reaction whatsoever. (Which is getting more and more rare these days.) If I had to guess, I would say that there is a high percentage of mica and titanium dioxide in this formula. Once again BH cosmetics proves why they are one of my favorite brands.
And I just want to say, I think BH did a phenomenal job with their holiday collection….especially the Lit Palette. I think it is stunning, though I have not tried it. I still have an emotional attachment to my Naughty palette from last year, but if I didn’t, I would definitely be picking this one up!
See you Soon!
