Makeup without Iron Oxides

It is difficult to find, but whenever I come across something I will post it here. Please ALWAYS check ingredients as brands tend to change things up. Please leave a comment if you know of any other iron oxide free makeup.

Primers

Most primers do not contain iron oxides because they do not contain pigment. Be aware of anything that is “tinted,” or “dewy” as these will often contain mica, and once again….check the ingredients no matter what!!!!!!

Eyebrow

Milani

  • Weekend Brow Eyebrow Tint- Contains Black 2 (Cl 77266)

Physicians Formula

  • Butter Palm Feathered Micro Brow Pen – Contains Black 2 (Cl 77266)

Maybeline

  • Tattoo Studio Brow Tint Pen

Liquid Eyeshadow

  • Paradise Shine Eye Sequins by DEARDAHLIA in shades 01 – Actress and 07 – Crystal Trance

Eyeliner

Eyeliner is one of my known triggers, I rarely wear it anymore. When I do, I reach for one of the following, which do not contain iron oxides. (Please keep in mind that make-up companies tend to switch things up when it comes to ingredients. At the time of this writing, these products contain no iron oxides but ALWAYS check the ingredients before you purchase/wear anything).

Too Faced

  • Better Than Sex 24 Hour Liquid Eyeliner – Contains Black 2 (Cl 77266)

Kaja

  • Wink Stamp Wing Eyeliner Stamp & Pen – This set contains a stamp to help you achieve a wing. It is separate from the eyeliner (they both come in the package) but it’s totally cute and helpful. The liner and the stamp both contain Black 2 (Ci 77266) and Black Tea Leaf Extract. Yes, there is nickel in black tea, however I do not react to this (and I react to most eyeliners). My guess is there is not enough to cause a reaction.

E.L.F.

  • H2O Proof Eyeliner Pen – Contains DC Black 2 (Ci 77266)
  • No Budge Retractable Eyeliners – These come in several colors. Only the black and navy do not contain iron oxides. They contain DC Black 2 (Ci 77266) and Blue 1 Lake (Ci 42090). Lakes are an organic dye and an inorganic substrate. I have heard of people with a nickel allergy having reactions to lakes. I will assume it depends on the inorganic substrate used. I myself have never had an issue using lakes. Just be mindful.

Milani

  • Eye Tech Extreme Liquid Eyeliner – Contains Black 2 (Cl 77266)
  • The Tank Eyeliner – Contains Black 2 (Cl 77266)

Eyelashes

If you ask me, eyelashes are the most important step of any makeup routine. They totally bring your look together (just my opinion). One way to make your eyelashes pop is mascara. I personally do not have any reaction to mascara. However, if you are looking for one without iron oxides, you can try the following.

E.L.F.

  • Keep Your Curl Mascara – May contain DC Black 2 (Ci 77266)

DISCONTINUED (NEW FORMULA CONTAINS IRON OXIDES)

  • 3-IN-1 Mascara – May contain DC Black 2 (Ci 77266)

  • Volumizing Mascara – May contain DC Black 2 (Ci 77266)

DISCONTINUED (NEW FORMULA CONTAINS IRON OXIDES)

  • Lash Beats Mascara – Contains DC Black 2 (Ci77266) Thank you Kat for finding this one for us!!!

100% Pure

  • Fruit Pigmented Ultra Lengthening Mascara – This mascara contains Blackberry and Raspberry Extract as well as black tea. ( There is nickel in black tea and raspberries. The amount does not seem to be enough to cause a reaction in most people, just be aware).

100% pure is a brand you may want to become familiar with if you have a nickel allergy. They make a lot of fruit pigmented makeup, however some of it also contains iron oxides. I will be posting about 100% pure in the future…spoiler alert, I do not like their eyeshadow formula, however I do like a lot of their products.

Another option is a lash lift. Basically it’s a perm for your lashes. You will find home lash lift kits, I would avoid these like the plague. Have it done professionally. A lash lift will lengthen and curl your lashes. It lasts roughly 8 weeks. Normally the salon will offer a tint with the lift. If you have a nickel allergy I would avoid the tint. You will therefore still need some mascara to darken your lashes, however since you will not be relying on it for length or curl, you will find you need less of it.

If you totally want to avoid mascara you could opt for false lashes. This is an investment. After you have your initial lashes put on, you will have to have them filled every 2 or 3 weeks, and have a new set done every few months. This gets very pricey. However, lash extensions are gorgeous in my opinion. I am always tempted to have them done again. Make sure you explain your situation to your salon, tell them you will need a clear glue, and will require a patch test to make sure there is no reaction.

  1. I also found that e.l.f. Lash Beats Mascara doesn’t have iron oxide, but does contain Dc Black 2 (Ci 77266)(Nano), Ultramarines (Ci 77007). Thank you for this blog! I’m new to this iron oxide allergy.

    1. Hi….I am so glad you found me! It means a lot that the site helped you. I also have a YouTube channel called Kimmie’s Attic. I have a nickel allergy playlist you may also find helpful. I will link it below.
Thank you so much for letting me know about the Elf Mascara! This must be a new one…I haven’t checked Elf in a while. I will definitely post it here and share with the community. Thanks again! If you come across anything else…please let me know!

  2. Do you not avoid products that β€œmay contain” iron oxides? I’m too scared to try the Milani foundation because it may contain nickel

    1. It’s only the cream to powder foundation that does not contain iron oxides.

INGREDIENTS: Dimethicone, Isopropyl Isostearate, Neopentyl Glycol Diethylhexanoate, Tribehenin, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Isostearyl Behenate, Silica, Nylon-12, Tridecyl Trimellitate, Talc, Myristyl Myristate, Polyethylene, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Sorbitan Trioleate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Isopropyl Titanium Triisostearate, Ethylene/Methacrylate Copolymer, Lauroyl Lysine, Myristyl Laurate, Retinyl Palmitate, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Myristyl Alcohol, Phyllostachys Bambusoides Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Lilium Candidum Bulb Extract

I tried it, and it does not work that well for dry skin.

100% pure makes some foundations without iron oxides. They are a really amazing company that make fruit pigmented makeup. They might be a better option. (Some of their foundation do contain iron oxides, so just be sure to check out the ingredients.)

  3. Hi there
The coral crush lists as having iron oxide in it, bummer! Terrible allergy to it ! Any other make up finds without it?

    1. Hi Lynn,

I do not see iron oxides listed….
