Hello Kitty and Hello Kimmie

Kimmie’s attic that is. I finally launched my You Tube channel. I called my channel Kimmie’s Attic, not just because I film in the attic (which I do), but also because I’m not all together sure what I want to do with it. Beauty….yes, makeup….yes, but I have so many other ideas. Just like you find all kinds of stuff in the attic, you will find all kinds of stuff on my channel. This blog, however, will always center around my nickel allergy.

And so, what better way to kick it off, than with a nickel allergy series. I will be talking about why I suspected that I had a nickel allergy, how I got diagnosed, and exactly how I figured out what was setting off my reactions. I’ll also talk about what is in makeup that gives it “pigment,” iron oxide free makeup, and making your own. Of course I will discuss eyeshadows that work for me, and I will share with you some skin products that really helped me through some rough reactions. I will also post all that information on this blog. I linked my channel if you are interested, just click on Kimmie’s Attic 🖤.

And now for the real topic of this blog…….Colourpop’s Tropical Escape, featuring Hello Kitty.

The Basics

I have always loved Hello Kitty. From when I was little, and had the Hello Kitty bath sponge (her bow changed color in warm water) to now as she strolls the beach in a bikini and drinks a Pina colada. And why shouldn’t she? She deserves a good time.

Hello Kitty, whose full name is Kitty White (some trivia for you) has been around since November 1974. She will be turning 48 soon. Since 2014, she had made roughly $8 billion a year. No wonder she looks so good.

This is not Colourpop’s first collaboration with Ms. White. They did something around the holidays. I did not buy it, I only remember that it was pastel, and looked like it was thrown together. A good holiday palette will make you feel like the holidays. I didn’t think that did it. A good summer palette will make you feel like the summer. In that aspect, they nailed it. (For this collection).

There are 4 palettes in this collection, appropriately called the “Cutie Fruity” palettes. There are….Cherry Sweet (pink), Teenie Kini (orange), Pineapple Cake (yellow), and Coco Cutie (blue). The palette’s cost $12 each or $44 for the bundle. Colourpop also sells them in pairs. The collection also features blush, lip balm and a lip scrub, all of which are still available. You can also buy the collection at Ulta (online only), however, make sure Colourpop is not having one of it’s random sales before you do this.

I only picked up two palettes from this collection. I have Pineapple Cake and Coco Cutie. I kind of whish that I had all 4. (Let’s face it, these are collectors palettes). Maybe I will eventually pick them up. For now I will talk about the palettes that I do have.

Coco Cutie

Is it a Pina Colada? It’s definitely some kind of fruit drink in a coconut. Let’s just say that it is. This ridiculously cute quad has 2 mattes and 2 metallics in an even mix of teal and cobalt blue. Honestly, I cannot say that this is Colourpop’s best formula. The mattes are kind of patchy. The metallics are beautiful going on, but they do not last.

Left to right…Hang Ten, Bay Breeze, Shaved Ice and Lovely Luau

These shadows are a really good mix of pigments…ultramarines, dyes and lakes. (Of course we still have iron oxides and mica.) I was a little surprised that I still had a reaction, but only to Shaved Ice. Maybe that’s the one with all the iron oxides and mica 😋.

Pineapple Cake

Hello Kitty’s got it, and she is not afraid to flaunt it. She is on the cover of this palette in a bikini carrying a pineapple. Maybe to make another drink? As Tabitha Brown would say “that’s her business.” I love her. I am not a vegan. Her attitude just inspires me.

This time the shades of mattes and metallics are in yellow. I learned from Limoncello that I really do not like yellow eyeshadow on me. In fact, are Amalfi and So Sweet the exact same shade? To The Core looks different in the pan, but swatched out it’s almost the same. These shades are way too close together to be in a quad. Again the metallics are better than the matte’s, but this is not Colourpop’s best formula.

We have another really good mix of ingredients in these shades, and I had no reaction to this palette. However, even though I had no reaction, I can’t say I really recommend this palette. (Either of them.) The formula is just not that good. However, if you are a Hello Kitty fan, that changes everything. Therefore, I am using a special rating system for these. I will give them a bow 🎀, which means I would skip these unless you like Hello Kitty.

From top to bottom…Sandy, La Pina, To The Core, and So Sweet
Can I rock a bikini like Hello Kitty? Nope. Not even close. Can I drink more Pina Colada’s? Probably not.

Conclusion

The cuteness factor of these palettes is off the charts. And that’s really why you are buying them right? Chances are if you are interested in these palette’s you are a Hello Kitty fan. If somewhere in your room there’s a shirt, or some stationary, a picture, a figurine, or dare I say it a purse with this humanoid feline, then these palettes are for you. I just said that I didn’t particularly like the formula, and yet I kind of want the 2 that I don’t have. These are novelty palettes. If you are looking for a practical everyday palette that you will get a ton of use out of, these are not for you. If you know that Hello Kitty has been in a long time relationship with Dear Daniel….well need I say more?

Are you a Hello Kitty fan?
