What It Is
This is a blog about eyeshadow palettes. I have a ton of them. I am testing each one to see which ones I can use. Every time I try a palette, I will update this blog. I will give you a small review. What I think of the brand and what I think of the palette, and if I can use it as someone with a nickel allergy. Some palettes I found I could use but, I was not in love with the formula. “They didn’t spark joy” as they say. There might be some poor quality palettes that you can use. That is up to you. I would not settle right away. There are plenty of good quality shadows I can wear.
What It Isn’t
Unfortunately, not a guarantee. I have a nickel allergy for sure. I can wear some shadows with no problem. Maybe it will not always be this way. Who knows. If I can wear a certain eyeshadow, does that mean you can also? No. It doesn’t mean that at all. We are all different. The only way is to test it yourself. Whether or not you want to do that is up to you. All I can do is give you an idea of where to start.
Now as far as iron oxide free makeup, it does exist. I will link some sites on my “Recommended Sites.” This blog will only include eye makeup. Unfortunately, I have never come across any eyeshadow that was iron oxide and mica free. (If you have please share). That is why I started doing this by trial and error.
There is some irony in this iron oxide story (sorry, I could not resist). Back when this whole thing started, I was only interested in eyeliner and eyelashes, and turns out those are the two easiest things to find. There are eyeliners and mascaras made with carbon black. ( 77266). Please keep in mind, a lot of people stay away from carbon black as they believe it is toxic, but I use it. It has been replaced with black iron oxide in most products, but it is still out there in the form of DC black 2.
As far as the eyelashes, I finally figured out the reaction was from the glue. The glue had black pigment. So this would have easily been solved by switching to clear glue. Oh well. It all worked out in the end. I would never (never say never) go back to false eyelashes, for a few reasons. They are expensive and you will have to give your lashes some love when you finally do decide to take them off. An alternative, which I do, is a lash lift. This is like a perm for your lashes (it curls them). A lift lasts about 8 weeks, and while you do not get the dramatic effect of the falsies, I really like it. If you have an iron oxide allergy, I would stay away from the tint most eyelash salons offer. Just go for the lift. Also, you want to avoid magnetic lashes. The magnets have nickel in them.
How Do I Test Eye Shadow?
It is a long and complicated process. It’s really not. I do a wear test. I have all different categories of reactions. We will call the the worst type 1 (my creative self). Type one is that feeling when you don’t know why you did this, why can’t you accept that you cannot wear eyeshadow, I need to get this stuff off my face immediately, and even then I will have eczema for three days type of reaction. That’s the worse kind. After a type one I will usually not go any further with a palette. I say usually because there is an exception. I am not proud of that, but it’s true.
The others just vary in levels of uncomfortable, but even if the reaction is ever so slight, I consider that an unwearable shadow. You never want to be uncomfortable in your makeup. Usually I try every shade in the palette. Sometimes I can wear some even if I cannot wear them all. I also try to test all the colors….just to see. In reality, I am a neutral, cool toned type of girl.
If you are wondering what I do with palettes that I cannot use….for now nothing. I am currently in the process of starting a u tube channel and I am saving them for that. Eventually, I will be donating them. Please do not ask me to send you palettes. Not that you would. Just sayin.
My blogs will be organized by brand. I will also give you my opinion on the brand. If you are someone that is easily offended by eyeshadow this is not the blog for you. (I’m kidding…you’re not right??)
If there is ever a palette you want me to try, do not hesitate to ask. Chances are I have it somewhere, and if I don’t I can always pick it up. For the sake of science!!
Thank you for your service, it’s great!
