The Sweet Shoppe Collection

I do not have a complete cone. Cotton Candy is where Bubblegum should be.

πŸ’›πŸ’›πŸ’›

In my 4th of July post, I mentioned BH Cosmetic’s Sweet Shoppe Collection. Right after that it was re-stocked. If that’s not a sign it should be my next post, I don’t know what is. I know I said we would be talking about Sigma….we will get there. For now, back to BH.

I will be posting about BH as a brand in the future, but this post is about the Sweet Shoppe. I first saw this collection on Jen Phelp’s channel, I want to say around this time last year. Since then, these limited edition palettes have been sold out and re-stocked multiple times. There is good reason for that. There is something truly special about these monochromatic palettes. From the packaging…to the formula….to the color stories.

(BTW….if you do not know Jen Phelps, she is a make up YouTuber. Her channel features mostly drug store, and dupes for high end make up. She also does tons of swatches and has an extensive, and I mean EXTENSIVE palette collection. Jen is very laid back and low key. I really enjoy watching her channel, and would highly recommend you check it out.)

Generally Speaking….

First of all, let me say that if my rating system was based on quality alone these would be a 10/10 or πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’š. However, my system is based on wearability for me, as someone with a nickel allergy. Unfortunately, the iron oxide ration in these palettes just does not agree with me. I will give you a basic overview, and go into detail on the palettes I own from this collection.

There are six palettes in this collection. Cotton Candy ( pink and purple ), Bubble Gum (blue), Pistachio (green), Cherry on Top (red), Orange Sorbet (orange), and Sugar Cone (browns). All the palettes contain 8 shadows (4 matte and 4 shimmer) in their respective colors. Right away this is a win for me. I just love when a palette is set up like this. It encourages easy one and done looks, but you could also do more dimensional looks with these palettes.

Each palette is in it’s ice cream themed packaging. If you have all six, you can make one big ice cream cone. That in itself is too cute. The packaging is sturdy cardboard, with a mirror. (Do any BH cosmetic palettes not have mirrors?)

These palettes cost $18.00 each, which I think is a great price for what you are getting. If you were going to buy all six, you would be paying over $100.00, but you would be getting 48 shades. However, in my opinion these palettes are more something for everyone, but probably not all palettes will work for you.

As stated earlier, there is something truly special about these palettes. Yes, they are monochromatic, but they are more than that. Each shade is really unique. I prefer these to the Colourpop monochromatic palettes, which I never had too much interest in. (BH had good timing to re-stock Cherry on Top with the release of Colourpop’s Cherry Crush). These palettes are truly more beautiful in person than any picture you will find.

At one point these were available at Ulta, but so far Ulta has not re-stocked them. For now you can get them on the BH Cosmetics website…https://www.bhcosmetics.com/. If you are interested I would get them ASAP. I am predicting that they will go fast, and who knows how many more times they will be re-stocked, if at all. Now for the details…..

Cotton Candy

This palette is a really nice mix of pinks and purples. One of the nicest. Ok, the nicest mix of pinks and purples. You have lavender, grape, fuchsia, hot pink. Swirl is bordering on maroon, and you could carry that right into the fall. If I had to play favorites, I would pick Sugar and Sugar Plum. Twirl and Carnival would place last as I just do not wear these colors.

Pistachio

I think of all six palettes, this was probably the most popular and the most gorgeous. That is truly saying something being that all of these palettes were stunning. These greens are definitely more intense that “The Child,” by Colourpop. (Of course “The Child,” is one of my favorite palettes, it is just more low key). I think my favorite set in this one is Guilty Pleasure and Dessert. You have that really summery lime green in this combination. Soft Serve and Sweet Life are definitely more gold green. In Nutty, you have a pea soup matte. Treat is just this gorgeous emerald shade. Finally, there is Cone or Cup and Crunch. These are darker greens. Imagine the beautiful looks you could make around the holidays with these?

Sugar Cone

Of course leave it to me to get the neutral palette. I can’t help myself. I also gravitate toward the most boring colors in the most boring palette as Cookie Dough and Sugar Rush are my favorites. This palette is the exception to my earlier statement about how each shade is so unique. Dipped is too close to Cinnamon, and Delicious is too close too Toasted. Too close to be in the same palette. I do think it was a good idea for BH to release a neutral palette in this collection. These warm brown tones are always popular in the summer. With that said, this palette was my least favorite.

The One’s I Don’t Have

Bubble Gum, Cherry on Top, and Orange Sorbet. I never go for red palettes for obvious reasons. Besides the fact that they make me look like Harley Quinn, I have enough trouble with my lids turning red on their own, without shadow. Red palettes tend to make me look sick. Blue palettes are a little better, but it depends on the shade. Some of them are ok, some of them also make me look like Harley Quinn. This was a plus at Halloween. As far as orange, I am just not someone who reaches for orange palettes. The closest I ever came was “Coral Crush,” by Violet Voss, and that didn’t even look good on me.

Me as Harley QuinnπŸ˜‹. This was last Halloween but I am not wearing the Sweet Shoppes. Red is Mulan Palette by Colourpop and for Blues I used The Magic Minis by Juvia’s Place.

I think the Bubble Gum and Cherry on Top were the most popular after Pistachio. They do not work for me, but look absolutely stunning on some people. Since I had a reaction to all three of these palettes, I won’t be trying anymore, but if I had not had a reaction, I might have tried Bubble Gum. Those blues are so gorgeous especially Sweetened and Blueberry. Chilly and Pop look nice too. Yeah, I would have definitely picked this one up.

The Reaction

I had the same kind of reaction to all of these palettes. ( I mean the three that I tried). This is somewhat strange. I would not think that I would have the same level of reaction to not only every palette, but to every shade. Not one of them worked for me. This leads me to believe that all the shadows were formulated similarly. This formula is unique to this collection. I own several BH palettes, and I do not react to them at all. In fact “Blueberry Muffin,” is one of my favorite, most used palettes. But, that is a different post.

The reactions I had to these palettes were slow. It came after a few days. It was not horrible…no swelling or anything like that. Just slightly irritated. It seemed to affect my left eye more than my right. So, these palettes were almost wearable, but not quite. I do not wear anything that causes even the slightest irritation.

Conclusion

Was this a very long post for palettes that I cannot wear? Yes. But I really feel that these palettes deserve the description. In an endless world of eyeshadow, they stand out for all the right reasons. If you are someone who does not have a nickel allergy, I would recommend them. Highly. Go buy them!

However, if you are someone with a nickel allergy, I would maybe think twice. As I have said before, just because I had a reaction does not necessarily mean that you will. However, I have to assume, based on my experience, that this is a high iron oxide formula. That’s only an issue if you are allergic to them. Like me.

BTW, there is also a set of brushes in this collection called “Sprinkles.” They are too cute. You get 9 brushes for $24.00. I do not have this particular collection, but I do have plenty of BH brushes, and I think they are of excellent quality.

Have you tried any of the Sweet Shoppe palettes? Are you planning on getting any? Let me know. See you next time.
